Miller Brewing Company was founded in 1855 by Frederick Miller in the Menomoree Valley of Milwaukee Wisconsin. It had previously been a small brewery called Plank Road Brewery. Controlling interest was sold to WR Grace & Co. 19 September 1966 from the granddaughter of Frederick Miller. Philip Morris acquired Miller Brewing Company 12 June 1969. South African Breweries bought controlling interest in Miller 30 May 2002.

Miller purchased Sparks and Steel Reserve brands 14 August 2006. On 9 October 2007 Miller merged operations with the USA operations of Molson Coors. Miller retained 58 of the company and Molson Coors got 42. However, they both have equal votes.

Miller High Life came on the market in 1903 and is still a best selling beer. It is a pilsner been sold in a clear bottle. Miller High Life has been known for years as the champagne of bottled beer. In 2002 Miller High Life won the gold medal for American style lager.

Miller Genuine Draft is made from the same ingredients as Miller High Life but is processed differently. Miller Genuine Draft is cold processed and not pasteurized to make it taste similar to draft beer from a Keg. Miller Genuine Draft won a gold medal in the World Beer Cup in 1999.
