Brewing Beer, A Way of Life

As dozens of new microbreweries spring up across the country every year, brewing beer has become a way of life for many people interested in providing honest, quality products to discerning customers who know a good brew when they see one. Not since the 19th century has there been so many options for beer lovers to choose from–and, with home breweries become more popular, more competition in the brewing business.

Brewing beer has become popular once more because it’s so easy to do, as the process requires just three main ingredients. Brewers begin with a mixture of water and a starch, which in Western countries is usually barley, and then add yeast to spark the fermentation process and release alcohol into the mixture. At points in the process, varying amounts of hops are added to produce the unmistakable beer flavor that millions know and love.

The key advantage of brewing beer, as opposed to producing wine or distilling liquors, is the relatively low investment of time required. Unlike most wines and liquors, which must be aged for long periods to produce a drinkable “finished” taste, beer takes only a week or two to brew and perhaps another fortnight to age!If you like what you see, keep going: The Hops Ceiling
